The Atlanta Braves bolstered their bullpen on Wednesday night, acquiring reliever Joe Jimenez from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for two minor league prospects.

Jimenez, 27, is in his final year of arbitration eligibility, and expected to make roughly $2.6 million next season according to MLB Trade Rumors projections.
The hard throwing righty could serve as a sneaky good pickup for a Braves team that lost reliever Kenley Jansen just a few short hours beforehand.
Per Statcast, Jimenez’s 2022 season was a major breakout, with ratings in the 85th percentile or above in several important categories, including K%, BB%, and expected ERA — which is formulated using batted ball data.
Additionally, despite a relatively pedestrian 3.49 ERA last season, peripheral stats such as fielder independent pitching suggest the right-hander has much more to give, as he led the way for Detroit with a sparkling 2.00 FIP (min. 50 IP). Namely, the Puerto Rican native reigned his command in dramatically, dropping his walks-per-9 from 6.95 last year to a much more palatable 2.06 mark.
For his career, Jimenez boasts a 5.24 ERA in 297 appearances, including 20 saves, and a 19-19 record.
